    The three (3) weeksof a newly employed classified employee's assignment shall be a probationary period.  "Day" shall be defined as one workday regardless of full-time or part-time status of the employee.  New employees, regardless of experience, are subject to this probationary period.

    "New" employees includes individuals who are being hired for the first time by the school district and those who may have been employed by the school district in the past, but have not been employed by the board during the school year prior to the one for which letters of assignment are being issued.

    During the probationary period, the new employee will be compensated at the substitute rate of pay.  Upon successful completion of a probationary period, the employee will be compensated at the appropriate board approved rate of pay.  The immediate supervisor may extend the probationary period beyond the three (3) weeks.

    Only the board, in its discretion, may waive the probationary period.
