We would like to make you aware of upcoming changes to the district’s 2019-20 four year old pre-school program, the benefits of this new structure, as well as details for how to get your student(s) signed up for pre-school.
For the 2019-20 school year, pre-school will be tentatively offered Tuesday through Friday in a half day format. There is expected to be five sections available - two morning and three afternoon. The morning session will be held from approximately 8:20-11:20AM, while the afternoon session will be held from approximately 12:20-3:20PM. Each of the five sections will have an anticipated capacity of 20 students, serving 100 pre-schoolers in total. Should the need arise, the district will utilize a lottery system to determine acceptance to the program.
The new structure will continue to provide consistent, high-quality instruction while better allowing students to settle into routines, social structures, and more efficiently adapt to daily activities and lessons. The district’s pre-school program adheres to the Early Learning Standards, and is implemented through the Creative Curriculum. This project-based approach is built on the basis of offering extended projects to students that span multiple days, and will be more effectively implemented with students attending four half days per week. With the likenesses of schedules and instructional plans, collaboration between pre-school teachers will be enhanced and allow increased focus on professional development goals. Additionally, the new structure will allow for more than one classroom option for pre-school students with special needs.
Sign Up Details
Pre-school sign up will be open to the public January 21 through March 14. To be considered for the district’s pre-school program, all families must complete the online sign up during this time period. This includes two parts; general household information and proof of residency. Due to anticipated interest in the program, it is likely that a lottery system will become necessary to determine acceptance into the program. Following acceptance, additional steps will be distributed at that time.
