Community Events & Activities

  • Wild Wednesdays: Elkhart Christian Church is hosting Wild Wednesdays starting in January.  This program is for 1st through 5th-grade students. The main focus will be learning to be a community, with games, and snacks right after school.  Music and crafts, and a meal with some elders from our community while learning something new.

  • NP Blackout Board: The NP Wellness Committee is extending an invitation to ALL NP community members to participate in our first “Wellness Cheer” Challenge.  The challenge officially started on December 1st and ends on December 20th, but don’t worry as you still have plenty of time to complete your NP Blackout Board.   • Looking to try a new sport? 

    410 West Lacrosse is partnering up with Maryville University lacrosse coaches for a free "try lax" session in Des Moines! 

    Who:  Girls in grades K-12th

    ​What:  A free "try lax" session.  No experience and no equipment are required.  We will provide everything you need!  Girls will be divided into groups based on age and introduced to the game we love!

    ​When:  Sunday, December 11th:

                    9am-10am: Kindergarten- 4th grade

                    10am-11am:  5th- 8th grade

                    11am-Noon:  9th-12th grade

    ​Where:  MVP Sports (4600 Park Ave. Des Moines, IA 50321)

  • Comet Volleyball Club: 

    Comet Volleyball Club is for students in grades 4-8 in the North Polk Community School District in central Iowa. The club participates participates in AAU and USA volleyball. The season starts in December and runs through March. Recreational games run on Saturdays from January through April and competitive tournaments will run on weekends from January through March.
    Evaluation dates - all at the Middle School in Gym 1
    5th grade: November 7th 6:30-8:30pm
    6th grade: November 8th 6:30-8:30pm
    7th and 8th grade: November 10th 6:30-8:30pm
    **4th graders do not go through the evaluation process and will play in the Rec League. 
    Cost for the program is $150 for Competitive team and $100 for Rec team. Payment will be requested once players are assigned to a team. If your player is evaluated and you do not accept a bid to our program, you could still be responsible for paying for a jersey. 
    ***5th and 6th grade players may be evaluated for a competitive team but could be placed on a Rec team. We want to continue to encourage growth for all players with equal skill levels.

  • Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa: Are you a girl in K-12 at North Polk? Do you want to make new friends, be a part of a group and do fun and exciting things?  Then being a Girl Scout might be for you!

    Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa is offering the gift of membership for all participating girls and adults for the 2022-23 Girl Scout year. Your membership will be valid through September 30, 2023.

    Want to volunteer?  North Polk Girl Scouts is currently looking for two volunteers to lead the kindergarten troop.
    We will have a recruitment night in October.  More details to come.
