GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Students must successfully complete the courses required by the board and Iowa Department of Education in order to graduate. The required courses of study will be reviewed by the board annually. Said courses of study shall be listed in the North Polk Course Registration Guide and the North Polk High School Student Handbook.Graduation requirements for special education students will be in accordance with the prescribed course of study as described in their Individualized Education Program (IEP).
Students who earn 46 or more credits will graduate with a traditional diploma. Students are required to earn these credits as follows:
Language Arts 8 credits
Science 6 credits
Mathematics 6 credits
Social Studies 6 credits
Computers 1 credit
Financial Literacy 1 credit
Health 1 credit (beginning with class of 2017)
Physical Education 1 credit
Electives 16 credits
Students who earn between 39 and 45.875 credits will graduate with a basic diploma. Students are required to earn these credits as follows:
Language Arts 8 credits
Science 6 credits
Mathematics 6 credits
Social Studies 6 credits
Financial Literacy 1 credit
Health 1 credit (beginning with class of 2017)
Physical Education 1 credit
Electives 10 credits
It is the responsibility of the superintendent, in conjunction with parents, to ensure that students complete grades one through twelve and that high school students complete 46 credits.
