    Welcome to Chemistry

CHEMISTRY   (9-12, Full Year, 2 credits, Prerequisite:  Algebra)

This is a traditional introductory high school chemistry course.  Topics covered include atomic structure, electron probability, the periodic table and periodic properties, bonding, formulas and names, equations, chemical reactions, the mole and stoichiometry, gases, solutions, and acids/bases.  Many of these topics require strong algebra skills.  Laboratory study is designed to enhance understanding of the concepts.  This course can be used to help satisfy the science requirement for college/university admission as well as the North Polk chemistry requirement.  Students are encouraged to take this class their junior or senior year unless they intend to take Advanced Chemistry and/or chemistry courses at DMACC prior to graduation.
