Cancellations and Delays
Our number one priority has been and always will be the safety of our students and staff. We as a district would like to remind you of the precautions we take when making weather-related decisions and how the information will be communicated to families. First and foremost, student and staff safety is our top concern.
In an effort to make a determination by 5:30 am, district staff will be out on the roads as early as 4:15 am. We consult a variety of meteorological sources, the Iowa DOT (Department of Transportation), and work with other area superintendents to make the most informed decision possible. We will be considering the driveability of roads and additionally the safety of temperatures with added wind chills. The roads might be fine, but if the wind chill is in the ballpark of -35℉, we may still be delaying or canceling.
Despite our best efforts, we know that things change in a matter of minutes. Families must ultimately determine, individually, if they are comfortable sending their students to school in inclement weather.
Communication Tools Utilized
- Blackboard Mass Notifications: In the event of a school cancellation or delay, Blackboard will be the primary communication tool used by the district. Families will receive communication in the form of a phone call, email, and text message. We pull the phone numbers and addresses for these contacts through our Student Information System, Infinite Campus. Please ensure all contact information is up to date within Infinite Campus.
