Central Student Named Quarterfinalist in Nationwide Jr. Ranger Competition
- Central Elementary
Owen Carey, a rising second grader at North Polk's Central Elementary, has made it to the top 10 in the national 'Junior Ranger' competition. He is the only Iowan remaining in the competition, and could use your support!
This contest is a nationwide effort to raise funds and awareness for the National Wildlife Federation, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to conserving America's wildlife and natural habitats for future generations. Owen, who is passionate about animals and their environment, could have the chance to meet and learn from renowned animal expert Jeff Corwin through this competition. This opportunity is especially meaningful because it helps him pursue his lifelong goal: becoming a zookeeper. Additionally, he could be featured in Ranger Rick magazine and win a $20,000 prize, which he plans to save for college. Despite being only seven, his first desire is to save his money, but he also hopes to use it for a service project benefiting local sheltered animals or the Blank Park Zoo.
Owen would greatly value your support. To do so, you can vote daily at the link below. Voting for the Semi-Finalists ends Thursday, the 10th of July, at 7 PM PDT. The process confirms your identity via Colossal and Facebook, but you are not required to donate money, though donations are welcome. Thank you for your support!
Best of luck, Owen! Comet Nation is rooting for you on this adventure!
