Each year, the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) and the Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) observe Family Week, a dedicated break designed to give students, coaches, and staff a chance to rest and recharge before the new school year begins.

What is Family Week?
Family Week is a period established by the unified activity federation calendar where no coaches or staff are permitted to have contact with students, and no official athletic events or practices are allowed to take place. This year, Family Week runs from Sunday, July 27, through Sunday, August 3, 2025.

What does this mean for students and families?

  • Facility Closures: All North Polk Community School District facilities will be closed to students for any organized activities during this time.

  • No Contact: Coaches, staff, and students, including incoming 9th graders, are not allowed to have any form of contact related to athletic activities, on or off school premises.

  • No Events or Practices: There will be no official practices, games, or other events during Family Week.

Why is this important?
Family Week provides an important pause for everyone involved in activities to rest and recharge. It also allows our custodial staff to thoroughly prepare and maintain school buildings and athletic facilities ahead of the new school year.

When will activities resume?
All athletic and activity-related programs will resume on Monday, August 4, 2025.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in respecting North Polk Family Week. We look forward to a successful start to the school year!
