The Iowa Bandmasters Association (IBA) Announces 2019 Outstanding Administrator Awards

Headshot of Jon Richards The Iowa Bandmasters Association (IBA) annually selects three administrators nominated by member band directors to receive an Outstanding Administrator Award. These administrators exhibit leadership traits that support the growth and success of the band programs, students, directors, and school communities. One administrator is selected at the middle school, high school, and superintendent levels.  The nominations are submitted to and selected by the IBA Public Relations Committee.


Jon Richards, principal at North Polk Middle School in Alleman, Iowa, is the recipient of the 2019 Middle School Outstanding Administrator Award.  Mr. Richards has been a principal of the North Polk Middle School since 2011. He has previously taught in various school districts in South Dakota and Iowa.  Mr. Richards was nominated by Hanna Hoversten, band director at North Polk Middle School. Per Hanna Hoversten’s nomination, “I have never worked for or heard of a principal who cares more for his students, staff, families, and school culture.”


The award was presented to Mr. Richards during the Iowa Bandmasters Awards Banquet at the 92nd annual conference on May 10, 2019. Please join us in congratulating Mr. Richards on his recent recognition.
